Chipmunks Rule, part 1

The Fog Mound: Travels of Thelonious, Susan Schade and Jon Buller (2006), Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, 214 pp.

Half traditional fiction (with illustrations), half graphic novel. Great combo, especially for young readers (say, age 7 and older). Thelonious, a single chipmunk, gets flooded out of his home and winds up in the dystopian City of Ruins (yes, remains of the post-apocalypse human world), where he meets a clever bear and a helpful porcupine. They fly off to utopian Fog Mound, and then sail back to the City, with all kinds of adventures in between. The illustrations are clever, packed with detail worth examining. A quick read, but lots of fun.
