Janet Morgan Stoeke

Minerva Louise (1988), Dutton, 21 pp.

Minerva Louise is a sweet but dim hen, who, like Mr. Magoo, wanders around mistaking nearly all she sees for something else. A sleeping cat is a friendly cow, a tricycle is a tractor, and a flowered bedspread is a meadow in full bloom.

This daffy hen is featured in many of Stoeke’s books, each showing us the world through Minerva Louise’s eyes. And was there ever a better name for a main character?
