Mapping censorship

BannedBooksWeek.org has a great map (thanks to Google Maps, which makes this kind of thing so easy to create) of the continental U.S., showing sites of book bans and challenges 2007-2010. Click the link for the “larger map view” and you’ll get a list of the sites and book titles down the left-hand margin. Note that most of these seem to be bans/challenges to school libraries and reading lists.

It’s kind of scary, the number of blue markers there. But something very interesting as well: no bans or challenges in Nevada or Utah during that period. OK Nevada! Good work Utah! Keep it up! Inspire the rest of the states!
