The Saga of Nicholas Flamel, part V

The Warlock (2011), Michael Scott, 380 pp.

Here’s my final vacation post, another great beach-house book. I posted about Vols 1-4 in this series last year, so check that out if you want to know more.

So much fun! Sophie and Josh are in deeper trouble, Nicholas and his wife Perenelle are about to die, horrible monsters are set to ravage San Francisco, other characters have gone back in time to Danu Talis (aka Atlantis), and Dee is gleefully pulling the strings to bring about the end of the world.

Sounds melodramatic? It is! A thrill ride, indeed. Scott’s knowledge of world mythology is immense, and it all comes into play here, as gods from all continents but Antarctica (and perhaps Australia) play pivotal roles. In this volume, Scott answered a question that had puzzled me for some time, in a way that made me gasp. I love it when that happens.

Thanks, Mr. Scott, for a series that pays off with each book. Do I really have to wait another year for the final volume, The Enchantress? I’ll have to keep myself entertained with your website.
